REPORT: OPENINGS EVENT SECOND ANNUAL PROGRAM 2019
Introduction of OGRC’s second annual program at EBN B.V. Utrecht.
On January 18, the second annual program of the Oil & Gas Reinvented Community was presented during a breakfast meeting at EBN B.V. in Utrecht.
We are pleased to announce that the theme for 2019 is:
“EMBRACING THE ENERGY TRANSITION”.
The introduction of this program answers to a clear and strong call of many of our members. ‘Embracing the Energy Transition’ is needed to speed up the energy transition. This also implies public involvement, which was the topic of the breakfast meeting on January 18th. Members can initiate more active collaboration within the community and share lessons learned regarding the application. This was emphasized during the discussions that resulted from the inspiring presentations by the guest speakers this morning.
This event was started with the announcement that EBN is the fourth partner of the Oil and Gas Reinvented Community as of January 2019.

Eelco de Groot (TU Delft) presented the challenges which often arise when trying to apply public involvement in projects, for e.g. in obtaining public acceptance we often overestimate the effectiveness of our polder model. Solutions to overcome these challenges for e.g, apply international best practice (IFC Performance Standard 1) on social risk, stakeholder management. This is based on the ‘honest broker’ principals. Eelco stressed that involving the public at the earliest possible stage is one of the keys to success as is the notion that stakeholders should genuinely be given the possibility that have an influence.
Thereafter, Jan Paul van Soest (De Gemeynt) presented the challenges of transformingfossil fuel companies into a zero-carbon industry. We need the industry for this journey and need to redefying roles, public and private partnering.
From “Gasgebouw to Transitiongebouw”.
Bianca Boverhoff (Solo ta hari) reflected on the previous presentations and presented a best practice example of a new heat infrastructure project in the Rotterdam area.
The session concluded that the energy transition will also require integrated visions and perspectives so as to win back public support for the technological innovations that the energy transition demands. The desired end goal of the theme year would therefore be to harvest the first results of newly set up joint projects for e.g. new Communication program, applications, solutions and or business- and partner models among our members.
The Communities Working Groups will be instrumental to initiate these projects but we welcome all our members to create new ideas for new Working Groups and or coalitions of stakeholders that can drive the energy transition.
