Carbon capture, utilisation and storage is being developed to reduce the emission of CO2 into the air from power plants or process installations. Until now, most of the effort has been on reducing the cost of capturing the CO2 at acceptable cost and the safety of transporting and injecting the CO2 in depleted gas fields or aquifers. A new development is to consider CO2 as a useful feedstock for use, for example to enhance production of oil and gas fields by CO2-EOR, produce methane or methanol from H2 (P2G), or the use in other processes such as fertilizer production. Both TKI Gas and European Horizon 2020 have significant funding available for innovative solutions in CCS and Carbon utilization.
